It started teaching both BA general degree and honours course since 2008-2009 sessions. Students are admitted in the department as per the University guidelines. Excursions and field trips organize by the department regularly. The department has all the latest equipment with proper laboratory for practical exercises. Dr. Sumalya Roy has undertaken a research project with the approval of UGC entitled “Effect of Folk Games Programme on Selected Psychological and Physical Fitness Variables in Adibasi Girls’ Student of Primary School of Bankura District”.

Physical Education course would help to improve the overall health and wellbeing of society by changing attitude of the college students who in future may promote the same among the mass. Training on sports and fitness also enhances the confidence and competence of the students.
