It started teaching BA general degree and honours course since 2000 and 2006 respectively. Students are admitted in the department as per the University guidelines.

Academic Activities
Teaching – learning is not just confined to regular class-room lectures. Students are also encouraged to learn on their own and express themselves freely by making them engaged in such activities Group Discussion, seminar and so on. The departmental library has a huge collection of books, magazine and journals and students have free access to it. Prof Saikat Mondal has completed a UGC approved research project entitled “Changing Socio-Economic condition of clay modelers in Kumartuli, Kalighat and Krishnaganj”.

With the traditional syllabus of both BA general and honours degree courses, teachers are also expert with the latest CBCS (UGC approved) syllabus of semester system. They are specialized in the new thrust area of archaeology, museum & heritage studies, urban history, environmental history, cinema studies, Popular Culture, history of USA, history of USSR and so on.
